I did some resin casting in 2006-2007. None of these are straight resin, but composite materials instead. I make 'coldcast' or 'bonded' bronze and nickel silver by mixing a metal dust into the resin. The finished piece polishes up like metal and bears a strong resemblance to pewter. I've also used a marble dust to create a faux bone or ivory.
I began with latex molds available from eBay in many designs. I moved to reproducing antique designs with my own molds. I had a great deal of trouble with St. George, Barleycorn, and Regence style sets because of the shape of the pieces. The only set I've reproduced fully is a ceramic figural Irish set. I've begun designing my own sets, as well, though. I've created two original designs by casting copies of seashells.
