- Irish Set -

A while back I purchased an incomplete 20th century ceramic Irish style figural chess set. I made copies of the pieces in cold cast metal to create a complete Irish chess set. So I made this set myself but the design is not mine. The knights were quite difficult to cast. Nothing else was at all problematic. I don't believe I would take on such a project again, however, as I don't feel the mediums match well. The glazed ceramic pieces lack detail. My cold cast metal looks quite a bit better on detailed carving. I like the original ceramic pieces better than my copes. My copies even pick up imperfections in the original glaze in their search for detail. Still, these pieces have a simple beauty about them. Here are some pictures:

Nickel silver royalty. The other side is bronze.

Minor pieces. The inside of the knight's chin is still a little rough; that was the difficult spot.
